The Thrive Retreat – Florida (via Instagram)..

Posted by on April 22, 2013 with 2 Comments

What a roller-coaster!  There is so much to tell you and so little time (right now).  But here’s the mini synopsis… We got home late Wednesday night (the 10th) from the Thrive Retreat in Florida (Which was so insanely fun that I cannot even wait for our Seattle rendition in June!).  These 19 photographers that came and spent the weekend with me are such incredible women!  They are talented, beautiful and just radiate so much amazing passion and power!  It was incredible for me to be able to see and hear the stories of where they were before investing in The Thriving Photographer™, where they are now (which is insane!) and then help them strategize how to take it even further and into every corner of their lives… A-MAZ-ING!

Okay back to my (not as mini) synopsis…

On Thursday the 11th, the hubs and I woke up and brought over our first load to our new home/Christmas tree farm.  We kept on brining loads over and working to get moved out of our old place and into our new home and then on Saturday…  Our very Dr. Hotstuff (aka – the hubs) went and picked up our new puppy, who had just flown in from Oklahoma.  Cause you know, it make perfect sense to get a brand new puppy when you’re still in the process of moving in. (Umm… No, it does not!)

I can’t wait to tell you all about each of the adventures we’ve been having.

I’ve worked like crazy to just get us unpacked and settled and am so happy to say that I think I’m about 95% there.  I’m left to those annoying boxes where you didn’t know where to put this stuff in your old house and you sure as heck don’t know where to put it in the new house… Blah!

So there you have it… You’re reading the blog of Washington’s newest city girl turned farmer (I have some serious Googling to do) who just got home from hosting her debut Mastermind Thrive Retreat in Florida and has recently welcomed a brand new German Shorthair Pointer to the family.  Now I’m off to go collect eggs from the chickens…

|  Special thank you to all the girls, especially Teryn Robinson for sharing their Instagrams for this post  |

To be continued.

Photography Workshop Retreat does the Harlem Shake..

Posted by on April 12, 2013 with 10 Comments

Getting out of your comfort zone is hard…. That’s exactly why we say, “out of comfort” – as in UN-comfortable.  So it makes sense why so many stay where it feels safe… But this is such a dangerous trap!  Growth, at it’s best… Happens when we get uncomfortable.  The most amazing experiences of my life – all happened when I was the most terrified.

So what about you?  What have you been wanting to do for a long time but just keep “holding off” on?

One of our crazy ‘get out of your comfort zone’ exercises for The Thriving Photographer’s Mastermind Retreat – FL. was in creating this Harlem Shake video.  The Mr. thought of it months ago, but just wasn’t sure if we would have time.  At the very end of the retreat we found that time!

Everyone jumped in, played their part and we got to laugh till we cried in the process!  Chelsea our fearless intro dancer made a comment that stuck with me, she said… “You know the comfort zone? I live perpetually out of that zone”.  And that got me thinking about the success these women have experienced…

The 19 women who came to spend the weekend with me have made a-m-a-z-i-n-g things happen!   It’s not that they’re not afraid of getting uncomfortable… In fact many of these women shared the truth about how scared they really were as they went for it…  But  they decided that the risk was worth it!

These women have challenged themselves to step up their game in every way… They started by investing in The Thriving Photographer™ - then they had to actually implement what they learned; new pricing, new sales techniques, new marketing strategies!  With disbelief and shock they saw their value go from $200 a session to thousands per session.  And last week they each flew from all parts of the country to a spend 4 days in a house full of women they only know virtually…  To get silly and crazy and vulnerable… And to Harlem Shake.  They realized that THEY are worth the risk!

So here is my CHALLENGE FOR YOU… Leave a comment and share where you’d really like to grow and why it’s uncomfortable for you and then go take the first step in making that growth you crave, become your reality.  YOU ARE WORTH THE RISK!

SNAP HAPPY in Action // Photography 101 Class..

Posted by on April 3, 2013 with 0 Comments

I love getting to see how YOU are using SNAP HAPPY(So keep sending your behind-the-scenes on over!!)

It’s inspiring, exciting, and just plain fun to get to see the real life results of the different products that I create!  Today Allison Carpenter is taking us behind the scenes of her first Photography 101 Course which she offered using SNAP HAPPY.

To give us a few more details… Allison, in all her awesomeness, has been kind enough to answer a couple questions about planning her Snap Happy Photography class!

1. How did you promote your SNAP HAPPY CLASS?
I scheduled my first class fairly quickly. I passed out the post cards that were included in the packet, as well as really pushing it on Facebook. I did have some at my local places that I visit, such as the Dr.’s office, and the restaurant where the class was being held

2. Where did you teach your class and how did you arrange it?
I originally didn’t have a place designated, due to not knowing the number of attendants. I am lucky enough to have a friend that owns her own restaurant, and she inquired about the class, so I asked if she wouldn’t mind having the class there? She didn’t mind at all and actually offered to provide the food. So that was a huge bonus! I also have donated seats in local fundraising silent auctions.

3.  Will you tell us about your cute SWAG gifts?
My packets were more informative than gifts. My packets included post cards to hand out to friends/family that might be interested in the class, a business card, cheat sheet card, pen, notepad (with custom stickers), a gift certificate for a large print as well as a percentage off of their future session, a gift card to the restaurant, and a terminology sheet.

4. How much did you charge for your class?
My class was a little over 90 min. I had 9 students, and I charged $95.00

5. What was your favorite part about the SNAP HAPPY CLASS?
My favorite part about the class was definitely seeing all of my students finally have that “aha” moment. Whether it was learning about catchlights or learning about using full shade, they all had a light bulb go off, and I knew that they were ready to go home and shoot away!

6. How do you plan to use SNAP HAPPY moving forward?
I can’t wait to push for more classes. I had so much fun and learned a lot about myself during this experience. This pack comes with awesome materials to get started and to continue to teach. It doesn’t apply to just dslr cameras, but can be applied to point and shoot. Leah even included a run-through video of her teaching the Power Point presentation, just in case there are any questions on certain topics. Ever since I posted my blog post about the class, I have had inquiry after inquiry about hosting. I am a little nervous because I didn’t expect it to take off quite so quickly, but I welcome every inquiry!

I CAN’T BREATHE..

Posted by on March 29, 2013 with 20 Comments

“Please… Help me.” My face was buried in my hands as I stood in my bedroom. I had just walked back in the door and it was t0o much. I just couldn’t keep it together for another minute.

The tears that followed were the ugly kind, with the huge sobs. I am not a pretty crier, and I was grateful to be alone.  I had to let it out.

I said a prayer in between  the sobs…

“I don’t know what to do.

How can I do all of this?

I don’t know how to help her?”

Please… Help me.”

And then I felt the words, as if He stood right beside me. They came with confidence and hope and love… “Let’s get to work.”

So I wiped my blotchy face with my sleeve (something I hate seeing my kids do) and rubbed mascara from my lashes to my cheeks, and then did just that… I went to work.

Trying to be everything for everyone is no cupcake walk.  One day we may feel like we’re on top of the world and we just can’t believe it’s this easy… Yet the next, feel so inadequate, so small – standing alone sobbing big, ugly (and loud) tears.

It’s a lot… We’re trying to be mothers, wives, artists, friends, home-makers, volunteers, entrepreneurs and… strong

The boat will be rocked, for-every-single-one-of-us. Don’t think for one moment that you’re alone in feeling like you’re a little less than enough sometimes.

So if every once in a while you find that its just too much to bear and you’ve got to let it out… Let yourself.  And then get to work and go back to being the amazing, courageous woman that you are.
